Epic Aircraft has completed FAA compliance test flights and estimates it is only "a few months" away from final certification of the E1000 turboprop, the manufactured version of the fast Epic LT kitplane.
"We've completed all FAA compliant flight tests and that's a major accomplishment for us," said Epic CEO Doug King. "Just a few more months."
King estimates the Bend, Oregon-based company will receive FAA approval to begin delivering certified planes in October.
"We will start deliveries in the fourth quarter," he said. "Our first aircraft is currently in production."

A 1,200 horsepower turboprop, the PT6A is one of the fastest of its type with a top speed of 333 knots and a range of over 1,600 nautical miles. It is also very efficient with about 50 gallons of fuel burned per hour at 34,000 feet.
Epic has been building experimental category aircraft for a decade and working on certification for more than five years. The E1000 will be the certified version of the Epic LT; The first E1000 flew in 2015.
King said the company has 87 orders and 265 employees, and is "fully funded." The plane has a retail price of $3.25 million.
